Christmas Wishes
Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?
- Charlie Brown
For me, Christmas is all about snow and unfortunately its been a lackluster start to the winter season. It started off like gangbusters back in November with snowstorms each weekend before Thanksgiving and it was really setting us up for something epic this winter. Then the weather patterns changed and it was dry for almost 4 weeks with 50 degree sunny days. Normally, I'm able to put in close to 10 days on the slopes before Christmas, but so far this season my snowboarding gear is still sitting out in the shed. I’ve been playing more pickleball than I would care to right now. Well, all that is about to change. The storm casters are going nuts with this latest Bomb Cyclone. We have a Sierra Super Cell moving through the region right now. There is a nice atmospheric river setup that looks to punish us over the next 72 hours with approximately 72” of the fluffy white stuff. Ignore the click-baiters and their forecasts of 150”. That ain’t happening, pure hopium and outlandishness. It rained all night, and then switched over to some heavy flakes late this morning in what looks like it will be a nice setup for a white Christmas.
Snow, glorious snow. It was only 3 Christmases ago that I had my snowboarding “accident” and spent Christmas day in the Emergency Room followed by a 3 day stay in the Trauma Ward in Reno. My injury was the top news that day until Jeremy Renner decided to fall out of his snowcat, nearly amputate his leg and then bleed out, which consequently stole my headlines. There wasn’t enough blood from my accident to hold top billing for long. Internal bleeding and ruptured organs just isn’t gruesome enough to compete with a “celebrity” meat grinder incident. I guess I need to try harder next time.
Christmas is here and I don’t want gifts. I only want snow and lots of it. That’s truly all I've ever wanted for Christmas. Since I was a little kid I loved waking up to a white Christmas. It brings me so much joy seeing the landscape blanketed with snow, A true winter wonderland. Give me some monochrome scenery as a backdrop to hang out by the fire with my lady and the dog, along with a good book followed by some good movies. Already in the holiday queue we have Trading Places, Die Hard, Gremlins, Elf, Bad Santa, A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, the Grinch and the classic Rudolph Claymation with the Heat Meiser. Also adding a new favorite, The Boy, The Fox, The Mole and The Horse. Have you any movie recommendations that I should watch? Drop them below. Looks like we’re going to be snowed in until Saturday and I could use some new (or old) tales to stay entertained.
Peace on Earth and Goodwill towards Man.
That’s the answer to what Christmas is all about.
And Snow! Let it Snow!
And now, I'm going to clock out, garnish my hot toddy, cue up some Vince Guaraldi Trio vinyls, grab a blanket and sit by a window to watch this onslaught of snowflakes. Vince Guaraldi Trio and some falling snow, that just screams Christmas. Charlie Brown would approve.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a Great Pumpkin !
